Do you need this

Signs this is the call to make

  • A tire went down and you are not somewhere safe to change it
  • The wheel nuts are seized and a four-way will not move them
  • The car has a locking nut and you cannot find the key
  • You are on a highway shoulder, where changing a tire yourself is genuinely dangerous
  • The tire pressure warning came on and the tire is visibly flat

What arrives

What the driver brings, and what he does with it

  • Spare fitted and torqued to the manufacturer spec, not by feel
  • Impact tools for seized and rusted-on nuts
  • Locking nut removal when the key is missing
  • Pressure check on the spare before you drive away
  • Flat tire loaded into the trunk or the truck, whichever you prefer

How the job runs

A flat tire call, start to finish

Numbered because it genuinely happens in this order. Knowing the sequence is most of what makes waiting bearable.

  1. 01

    Get somewhere safe first

If you can still roll, come off the highway. A shoulder change is the job we least want to do and the one most likely to go wrong.

  2. 02

    Confirm you have a spare

Check the trunk floor or under the rear of the vehicle. Many newer cars carry a sealant kit instead, which turns this into a tow.

  3. 03

    Wheel off, spare on

The driver works from the traffic side, jacks on the manufacturer lift point, and torques the nuts in a star pattern.

  4. 04

Know your limit on the spare

A compact spare is rated for roughly 80 km/h and 110 km. The driver writes both numbers on the invoice so you do not have to remember them.

Flat tire questions

The things people ask before they agree to anything

What if I do not have a spare?

Then it becomes a tow. Plenty of cars built after 2015 ship with a sealant kit and no spare at all. Tell dispatch and we send a truck instead of a tire tech, which saves you a wasted call-out.

Can you plug or patch the flat instead?

Not at the roadside. A puncture has to be repaired from inside the tire, which means dismounting it. Anyone offering an outside plug on the shoulder is selling you a repair that will not hold.

Can you fit a run-flat?

If the run-flat still holds air we top it up and you drive to a shop. If it is destroyed and there is no spare, it is a tow.

  • Slid into the ditch on a concession road at 11pm with no cell bars. They kept the truck rolling to where I said I was instead of giving up when the call dropped. Out in twenty minutes, no damage to the bumper.

  • Quoted me on the phone before dispatching and the invoice matched to the dollar. Last company I used added a night surcharge I only found out about at the drop-off.

  • Boosted the car in the GO lot and then load-tested the battery, which is how I found out it was on its way out. He fitted a new one in the parking space. Would have been stranded again by Friday otherwise.
